Forces loyal to Libya's UN-backed government on Friday made advances on the remaining pockets of Islamic State (Daesh/ISIL/ISIS/IS) terrorists holding out in the coastal city of Sirte.
The push came after months of intense fighting in Sirte between government forces and fighters loyal to the Islamic State (Daesh/ISIL/ISIS/IS) terrorist group, which gained a foothold in the country following the 2011 overthrow and killing of longtime dictator Muammar Gaddafi. AP reported.
The progress on the remaining areas controlled by ISIL group militants came from two axes, according to fighters, with most progress being made in the city's south. Pro-government forces fought their way into Sirte on June 9.
