Forces loyal to Libya’s United Nations (UN)-backed Unity Government on Saturday claimed to have made progress in their fight against the Islamic State terrorist group (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL / IS) in the city of Sirte.
With the help of US airstrikes, fighters claimed to have secured Residential Area Number Two and said they were now taking the fight to ISIS in their remaining residential areas.
In an abandoned building which fighters claimed had been occupied by ISIS militants, a sign was found written in perfect English explaining the Pillars of Islam and the ritual of daily ablutions, suggesting foreign fighters may be operating in Sirte.
Sirte has been the scene of intense fighting in the last few months.
