Al Bunyan Al Marsoos forces, with the aid of US airstrikes, were advancing towards the center of the city, securing about 70 percent of what was once under ISIS control.
Sirte is the Islamic State (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL) terrorist group’s last remaining stronghold in the country, and Libyan troops along with US airstrikes have been forcing the militants into ever-smaller bits of territory there.
In a statement, US Africa Command said it had conducted strikes in the coastal city of Sirte “at the request of, and in coordination with” Libya’s United Nations-backed government.
