Turkey have banned a website covering Russia state news, it's Turkish editor claimed today.

The website of Russian state news agency Sputnik has been blocked in Turkey, its Turkish editor-in-chief said.

A move that could further strain relations between Moscow and Ankara after Turkey shot down a Russian warplane last year.

"There is no access to sputniknews.com and subdomains from Turkey.

"We've sent a letter to the regulatory agency asking for the reasons. We were not expecting a ban at all," Mahir Boztepe said.

No one was immediately available for comment at the telecoms and internet regulatory agency.

It comes as Putin issued a strongly-worded condemnation of Egypt and Turkey's handling of ISIS extremists, warning neither country is safe to travel to and branding the Turkish government terrorist colluders.

In his annual televise phone-in, the Russian president said Moscow viewed Ankara as a friend but had problems with individuals in its government.

He said: "We have problems with a few politicians whose behaviour we consider inadequate."

In an angry critique of Ankara yesterday, Mr Putin said the Turkish leadership was still cooperating with terrorists and that suicide bombings had become a weekly occurrence.

Turkey, he said, was in the middle of a civil war, and there was no guarantee of Russians visiting the country safely, Express reported.
