Bahrain official News Agency announced that the Bahraini government has decided to sever its diplomatic ties with Iran.
It added that the Bahrain government asked Iranian diplomats to leave the country within 48 hours.
A diplomatic source referring to Riyadh's severance of diplomatic ties with Iran said that the Saudis are trying to encourage some other Persian Gulf littoral states to join its decision.
Saudi troops in support of Al-Khalifa regime in Bahrain and in a bid to confront Bahraini protesters have the island within the frameworks of Island Shield Forces to suppress protesters in Bahrain; IRNA reported.
