Philip Hammond has said it was 'more likely than not' an explosive device was the cause of last week's Russian plane crash.

There are people in the UK "who would love to smuggle an explosive devise" onto an airplane, the Foreign Secretary has said.

Philip Hammond said that on the basis of available information, it was "more likely than not" that the cause of last week's crash was an explosive device smuggled on board the Russian plane.

Egyptian investigators are yet to determine whether or not the noise picked up by the cockpit voice recorder in the final seconds of the flight was the sound of the explosion.

Mr Hammond said British tourists will face a delay of "at most two or three days" and suggested airport security around the world may have to be overhauled if it is confirmed the Russian airliner crash in the Sinai was caused by a bomb.

Speaking to BBC1 he said: "We know there are people in the UK who would love to smuggle an explosive devise onto an airplane if they could.
