Speaking to FNA on Saturday, Ahmad called for reinvigoration of relations between Iran and Egypt, and said, "Cairo will strengthen ties with Tehran to increase cooperation in the economic, technical and specialized fields."

Elaborating on reasons for Egypt's positive attitude towards Iran's use of peaceful nuclear technology, he said Tehran has signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), its activities have always been under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and it has always supported Egypt's call to establish a nuclear-weapons- free Middle-East.

Ahmad also pointed to the recent nuclear agreement between Iran and the world powers, and said it can enhance the trade relations between Tehran and Cairo which can lead to the development of bilateral political ties.

Iranian and Egyptian officials have repeatedly voiced interest in the resumption of the two countries' diplomatic relations in the last few years.

In relevant remarks in February, Iranian Deputy Economy Minister Mohammad Khazayee said Tehran is ready to promote its relations with Cairo in all economic, scientific, tourism, and health fields.

Speaking in a conference titled "Iran and Egypt, Future Perspective" co-sponsored by the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Egyptian Al-Ahram Institute in Tehran, Khazayee underlined Iran's economic capacities and called for expansion of economic, cultural and scientific cooperation with Egypt.

"That is the reason why Iran has exported technical and engineering services to various countries and Iranian engineers are currently busy constructing dams and other infrastructure facilities around the globe," he said.

Khazayee said that Egypt can earn two to three billion dollars each year through its tourism industry from the Iranians.

He further pointed to the Iran's health tourism capabilities as one of the fields for bilateral cooperation.

The Iranian official expressed the hope that Tehran-Cairo would establish a joint economic commission soon.
