Iran’s ambassador to The Hague has reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to all disarmament treaties.

He emphasized that there is no room for weapons of mass destruction in Iran’s national defense strategy.

“Iran has signed all treaties on disarmament and arms control, and has fulfilled all its commitments to the treaties” said Kazem Gharibabadi. He is also Iran’s ambassador to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Gharibabadi further said that WMDs have no place in national defense strategy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its strategic calculations.

Groundless allegations against Iran are rooted in this country’s “determination, independence, and challenge of unfair approaches in the international area”, the Iranian official noted.

He also asserted that developments in the Middle East and North Africa have been responded to by illegal sanctions against Iran.

Iran has repeatedly been indicted by the U.S., the Israeli regime, and some of their allies over the charges of pursuing non-civilian purposes in its nuclear energy program.

Holding the accusations as a pretext, Washington and the European Union (E.U) have imposed illegal unilateral sanctions against Iran.

Denying the allegations, the Islamic Republic reserves the right to develop and obtain nuclear technology for peaceful purposes as it is a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Iranians have always been the target of “threats, chemical weapons, terrorism and aggression”, Gharibabadi added.

He stated that the politically-motivated sanctions, used to pressure Iranians, are in contradiction with international law.

Gharibabadi said Iran played a major role in the regional developments and its foreign policy was based on “mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs of other countries, and a peaceful coexistence with its neighboring states and other countries.”
